[vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/1″][vc_custom_heading]Challenges on the Fishermen’s Trail between Zambujeira do Mar and Odeceixe <\/strong>[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text]Following confirmation of a possible risk of collapse<\/a> on one of the sections of the Fishermen’s Trail, near the iconic Am\u00e1lia Beach, on the Zambujeira do Mar \u00bb Odeceixe<\/a> stage, to ensure the safety of walkers, the route was diverted to a safer area<\/strong>, while maintaining the logic of a large linear route. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”26442″ title=”Deviation”][\/vc_single_image][vc_column_text]The deviation, initially considered a short-term solution, has now been in place for two years, due to various factors that continue to delay a solution that matches the quality of the Rota Vicentina trails<\/a>. Here’s a brief history. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”26492″][\/vc_single_image][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h3″ text_size=”h3″]First steps towards resolution[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text]From the beginning, our priority was to find a solution that would maintain the trail’s original route, passing through the emblematic Praia da Am\u00e1lia. The first proposal involved building a safe infrastructure on the affected site. However, the Portuguese Environment Agency<\/a> (APA) did not approve this option due to safety concerns and the project did not go ahead. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”26451″][\/vc_single_image][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h3″ text_size=”h3″]New solution under analysis[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text]Together with the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests <\/a>(ICNF), we identified a second alternative that would keep the trail relatively close to the coast. This proposal involves building a bridge and wooden stairs, ensuring the safety of hikers and the continuity of the trail. This alternative has been approved by the APA and ICNF. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”26455″][\/vc_single_image][vc_column_text]However, we are now facing a new obstacle<\/strong>: the approval of the owner of the area where the bridge would be built. We continue to work with all the parties involved to ensure that this solution is viable. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”26427″][\/vc_single_image][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h3″ text_size=”h3″]Current situation and safety[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text]For the time being, the diversions near Praia da Am\u00e1lia on the Zambujeira do Mar \u00bb Odeceixe<\/a> stage remains in place. We realise that the alternative route doesn’t offer the same experience as the original trail, but safety is our priority.<\/strong> Despite the risk of collapse, some fishermen and hikers continue to use the banned route, which represents a real danger. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]We appeal to users of the Fishermen’s Trail<\/a> to follow the directions of the alternative route and respect the safety instructions.
