In the historic centre, the best way to begin is simply to walk. At the top of the town, the Castle of Santiago do Cac\u00e9m<\/strong> and the Mother Church of Santiago<\/strong> form one of the town\u2019s most striking heritage ensembles. The castle walls, closely associated with the Order of Santiago, also offer privileged views over the Alentejo landscape.<\/p>\n

As you make your way down through the historic streets, you\u2019ll encounter other reminders of the town\u2019s past, including the Miseric\u00f3rdia Church<\/strong>, the Pillory<\/strong>, the Chapel of S\u00e3o Pedro<\/strong>, the Clock Tower<\/strong>, and several buildings of historical and architectural interest. The Santiago do Cac\u00e9m Municipal Museum<\/strong>, housed in the former Town Hall and prison, is another worthwhile stop for those wishing to learn more about the history and memories of the territory.<\/p>\n

The Tapada dos Condes de Avillez<\/strong> is also well worth a visit.
