Warning Map

Last update: 09/02/2026

Rota Vicentina is a leading hiking and cycling destination. Along its Walking and Cycling Trails, the safety and well-being of our visitors are a priority. Now, the warning map helps visitors better prepare for a trip to the Southwest Region.

What is a Warning Map?

This map brings together all important alerts about the Rota Vicentina Walking and Cycling Trails. Instead of searching for information stage by stage, you can now access a single map showing alerts, incidents and any trail closures. The aim is to support safer and more informed navigation.

SAFETY WARNING — Severe weather and hazardous ground conditions

After recent storms, saturated soil may cause isolated and unpredictable hazards along the Rota Vicentina trails, including flooding, fallen trees, strong water flows and unstable slopes.

Until further updates, we recommend postponing hikes and cycling routes, especially in valley areas, stream crossings, and sections exposed to strong winds and rough sea conditions.
Before setting out, please consult:

🔺 Warning Map of Rota Vicentina (operational information from the field);
🔺 IPMA alerts and forecasts (weather conditions and sea state);
🔺 Civil Protection public alerts (recommendations and risk guidance);
🔺 Flood alerts / InfoÁgua (APA) (flood events).

Even with improving weather conditions, risks may persist for several days due to saturated soils and obstacles along the trail.

Useful tips before hitting the trail:

🌦️ Check the weather forecast from IPMA;
🥾 Use appropriate equipment: sturdy footwear, waterproof clothing and hiking poles;
🗺️ Know the trail you plan to follow: consult the stage page on the rotavicentina.com website, check the alerts section and review the interactive map;
❗ Exercise caution in difficult passages.
🔥 Be aware of possible extreme events (e.g. wildfires or floods).
