The special summer edition of Time Out dedicates an entire magazine to Odemira, inviting readers to discover a region shaped by landscapes, flavours, people and places. Among its pages, you’ll find several Rota Vicentina members, in a selection that showcases the diversity and authenticity of the Alentejo Southwest.
“The compass points to the Southwest”
This is the motto featured in the special summer edition of Time Out, dedicated to Odemira. A compass pointing towards a region where the hills meet the plains, the inland stretches all the way to the sea, and every place has a different story to tell.
Portugal’s largest municipality by area, Odemira is also a land of contrasts: from the sheltered beaches of the coast to the landscapes of the hills, taking in the Mira River, the Santa Clara Reservoir, the villages and the town of Odemira. It is precisely this diversity that Time Out seeks to reveal, through a selection of places to eat, stay, explore and enjoy.
And there is a good reason why this discovery should also lead to the Rota Vicentina.
Rota Vicentina is an invitation to discover Odemira on foot. Part of a network of trails stretching between Santiago do Cacém and Lagos, it offers three ways to explore the region: the Historical Way, the Fishermen’s Trail and the Circular Routes. Trails that cross the inland countryside, follow the coast and invite you to discover the region at your own pace, one step at a time.
For those who prefer two wheels, Odemira also offers different ways to discover the region by bike, with MTB, Gravel and Bikepacking and Touring routes. An offer designed for different paces and ways of travelling, always with the landscapes of the Southwest as a backdrop.
A network that brings the region to life
The magazine’s pages also feature several Rota Vicentina members, including restaurants, accommodation providers and activities. They are different businesses and projects, but are united by their connection to the region and by the experiences they offer to those who visit.
At the table, the selection takes us on a journey through the different flavours of the municipality, featuring Tasca do Celso, Manjedoura, Porto das Barcas, O Tarro, A Barca Tranquitanas, Costa Alentejana Restaurante and O Sacas.
These are places where food helps tell the story of Odemira: from seafood to Alentejo flavours, from traditional cuisine to dishes that reflect the cultural and gastronomic diversity that characterises the region today.
For those who want to go beyond the table, Time Out also highlights experiences such as Vicentino Wines, Junior Jacques and Oficina na Escola, projects that offer an insight into other dimensions of Odemira, from wine and traditional crafts to local creativity.
And because getting to know a place also means taking the time to stay, the edition features a selection of Rota Vicentina member accommodation providers: Três Marias, Vida na Vila, Herdade da Maceira, Herdade do Touril, Residencial Rita, Residencial Idálio and Quinta do Chocalhinho.
