New Volunteering Calendar: Autumn 2026

The mission continues! This calendar includes our usual trail maintenance hikes across our extensive network of trails, as well as nature conservation activities in partnership with Mossy Earth.

The calendar kicks off with our return to the Sagres Birdwatching Festival. We’ll be there and will hold the first trail maintenance walk of the season at the beginning of October, on the 2nd.

Taking part in these activities means much more than spending a day outdoors in the company of a fun group of people. It also means walking together towards a shared purpose: caring for this territory of the South-West Alentejo and Vicentine Coast, and giving something back to Nature, which offers us so much of its beauty.

During our maintenance walks, we explore the trails together, fully equipped and carrying the necessary tools to carry out light maintenance work on a trail or section of the Rota Vicentina hiking trail network.

We call it light maintenance because it’s the kind of work we can do while walking. This includes, for example, repainting trail markings on different types of surfaces, collecting any litter we find along the way, and cutting back vegetation that may be hiding the markings or blocking the path.

These activities are an active way to explore the territory, meet new people, reconnect with familiar faces, and support Rota Vicentina in its mission to keep the trails well-maintained, clean and accessible.

Working together is essential in a territory as vast as our South-West, and joining forces to protect Nature is a mission we are proud to embrace.

These nature conservation activities are all about that. Here, Rota Vicentina and Mossy Earth invite you to look at the landscape from a slightly deeper perspective.

We look at plants and soil, try to understand the ecosystem we are part of and the impact we can have — both negative and positive — and then… we roll up our sleeves!

These activities are for those who don’t mind getting their hands dirty, want to learn more about native flora and help control invasive species.

Some even say they can be quite therapeutic! 🌱
