Warning: very high temperatures until July 21st and prohibition of access, circulations and permanence inside the forest areas.
According to the Portuguese Weather Institute (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera), in the coming days Portugal will face a situation of persistent hot weather, which should give rise to a heat wave in many areas of our territory, including the Alentejo and Vicentina Coast region.
This very hot weather situation will persist until the July 21st, with very high temperatures and low levels of humidity.
So, this is a good time to pack your boots and not go on walking or cycling adventures on the Rota Vicentina over the next few days!
This warning is also reinforced by the Portuguese Government, which declared rural fire risk alert until 11:59PM of July 21st for Portugal, and the adoption of exceptional measures such as prohibition of access to, circulation within and permanence in forest areas..
The recommended walking and cycling season on the Rota Vicentina is from September to June.
In this region, the summer is very warm and arid, and the full beaches do not allow you to enjoy the pure and wild beauty of SW. Accommodation generally requires a minimum stay of several days, prices are higher and many services have limited availability.
Enjoy these days to plan your trip with all the tools and contents that Rota Vicentina offer to you.
If you can’t find an alternative to hike or bike on Rota Vicentina during the less hot months, then don’t do it on the next few days and during the hottest hours. Reinforce the water and application of sunscreen.
Follow the recommendations of the Rota Vicentina and the official entities for safe holidays!
