October 2022

Awareness walk in the Algarve + Sustainable and “My profession” activity with the Castelão Kindergarten

On October 18th, we accompanied a 5th grade class from the Primary School of Aljezur, from the Professora Piedade Matoso School Group, on an environmental awareness walk along the Amoreira Circular Route.

This activity was part of the “Algarve + Sustentável” event program, which took place between the 18th and 22nd of October, in Aljezur.

With a large and happy group, we started the walk along Amoreira beach. The weather was shy ate the beggining and it threatened to rain, but a few minutes later the sky finally opened for a fantastic day.

With our eyes on the landscape, we climbed through the schist lands and discovered some aromatic plants, talked about the importance of biodiversity and even found some invasive species such as willow and several species of acacia.

On the dunes, however, the movement became more difficult. We delayed the step but took the opportunity to taste the camarinha berries!

On the 21st of October, we went to meet the little explorers of the Castelão’s Kindergarten (Vila Nova de Milfontes School Grouping) and we did an activity to show the younger ones some of the tasks we perform in the maintenance of the trails and in the conservation of nature.

The day was a bit rainy but that didn’t stop us from going outside! We took the field “uniform” and in our backpack some of the material we need for maintenance – paint bottles, signage templates, field guides and the Walking Trails map! We planned a “mini Circular Route” in the school grounds, drew autumn leaves and (cheekily) put our feet in the puddles!

Those were very grateful days!
