This week, Rota Vicentina launches a new blog and social media series celebrating the villages and towns that bring life, culture and identity to the landscapes connected by its trails: Village Routes.
Over the coming months, we’ll journey through some of the Southwest’s most authentic villages and towns, from the coast to the hinterland, sharing inspiring itineraries for those who love to travel slowly, wander beyond the obvious, and experience each place at its own rhythm.
Because Rota Vicentina is more than a walking trail. It lives in the quiet streets of its villages, in cafés where life unfolds at a gentler pace, in local markets, rural landscapes and hidden beaches, and in the people whose stories, traditions and way of life continue to give this region its unique character.
In each edition, we’ll bring together recommendations and inspiration to help you go beyond the trails and uncover lesser-known places and experiences. Places that invite you to slow down, stay a little longer, and discover the details that make each destination unique.
But discovering this region is also about meeting the people behind it.
Rota Vicentina’s partners play an essential role in making each journey more meaningful, comfortable and authentic. Throughout the series, we’ll shine a light on those who help shape the visitor experience every day – from characterful local accommodation and restaurants celebrating regional produce, to outdoor activities, transfer services, independent shops and small businesses that keep the local economy and community spirit alive.
From guided walks and cycling adventures to sea-based experiences, traditional meals enjoyed after a day on the trail, or peaceful stays in the countryside, our aim is to bring visitors closer to the people, businesses and projects that help make the Rota Vicentina experience truly unique.
From Porto Covo to Odeceixe, from São Luís to Santa Clara-a-Velha, and from Cercal do Alentejo to Sagres, each stop has its own rhythm, landscapes, flavours and stories waiting to be discovered.
This new series is also an invitation to a more conscious way of travelling – one that is deeply connected to the region, values nature, local culture, authenticity and the tranquillity that still endures in the small communities of the Southwest, while supporting the people who keep this territory alive.
